Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant told reporters he has to "live with it" when asked by reporters about ongoing trade discussions involving him, ESPN reports.
Morant traveled with the Grizzlies for their European trip and said he'd "hopefully" play in games against the Orlando Magic in Berlin and London this week after being out of action since January 2, but was also reported to have been involved in an animated exchange with teammate Vince Williams Jr. on Wednesday (January 14). Last week, ESPN's Shams Charania reported that the Grizzles were entertaining offers to potentially trade Morant.
"Just in: For the first time, the Memphis Grizzlies are entertaining offers to potentially move two-time All-Star Ja Morant ahead of the Feb. 5 NBA trade deadline, sources tell ESPN," Charania wrote on his X account. "Multiple teams are pursuing Morant in trade talks and rival executives believe the Grizzlies would prioritize draft picks and young players in return, sources said. Morant, 26, is under contract with the Grizzlies through the 2027-28 season."
The Grizzlies are reportedly considering a trade involving Morant for the first time since he was selected No. 2 overall in the 2019 NBA Draft as plans may shift toward building around several young players including 2023 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Jaren Jackson Jr., while also possibly continuing with Morant as the focal point, according to Charania. Morant is currently averaging 19.0 points and 7.6 assists in 28.3 minutes per game, but has been limited to just 18 games during the 2025-26 NBA season due to injuries, as well as a one-game suspension for an altercation with coach Tuomas Iisalo in November.
The former Murray State standout was limited to just 59 appearances during the past two seasons due to two suspensions for gun-related incidents and various injuries. Morant is, however, one of eight players in NBA history to average 22 points and seven rebounds per game along with LeBron James, Oscar Robertson, James Harden, Nikola Jokic, Luka Dončić, Trae Young and Cade Cunningham.
