(Asheville, NC) -- Results from the primary elections are coming in tomorrow night. The early voting period is over in North Carolina, and now it's time for remaining voters to cast their ballots at the polls tomorrow. Buncombe County had already seen more than 17-thousand early voters at the end of last week, which shattered totals from the last primary without a presidential election in 2018.
State ABC Cracking Down On Illegal Sales
(Raleigh, NC) -- The North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission is trying to cut down on illegal booze shipments. The association sent cease-and-desist letters to six out-of-state businesses. The letters stated it's against the law for dealers to ship alcohol to any North Carolina resident who doesn't have a wholesaler's permit. The businesses have been given 30-days to provide proof that applicable North Carolina state taxes were paid.
New Partnership To Benefit WNC Tourism
(Haywood County NC) -- A new partnership has lofty goals for more tourism in the mountains. WLOS-TV reports Visit North Carolina and Airbnb are partnering for a year to increase tourism in Graham, Haywood, Madison, Mitchell and Yancey counties. North Carolina Airbnb hosts pulled in 75-million-dollars last year alone.
Macon County Road Opens After Landslide
(Macon County, NC) -- Heavy rain is cause for a landslide in western North Carolina. State route 1310 in Macon county was shut down Saturday night after debris and a large boulder slid down the hill and blocked the road. It was re-opened yesterday. There were no injuries reported.
Cause Of Asheville Homicide Released
(Buncombe County, NC) -- The cause of an October 2021 death in Asheville is being revealed. WLOS-TV reports from an autopsy just came back in that show Kimberly Jarvis died from strangulation. Her body was discovered inside a vacant Denny's restaurant on Patton Avenue. The autopsy also showed there was methamphetamine in her system.
Two Counties Benefiting From Telehealth Funding For Kids
(Avery County, NC) -- Some children in rural western North Carolina will see benefits from new funding in response to COVID-19. The Baxter International Foundation is awarding 100-thousand-dollars to be used for telehealth services in Avery and McDowell counties. The Center for Rural Health Innovation provides the services.
One Dead In SE Charlotte Shooting
(Charlotte, NC) -- A homicide in southeast Charlotte is being investigated by the CMPD. Officers found a man shot to death on North Wendover Road last night. It's unclear if any arrests have been made. The victim was 18-years-old.
NBA's Curry Graduates From Davidson
(Davidson, NC) -- Steph Curry is now a graduate of Davidson College. The NBA star earned a Bachelor of Arts in sociology yesterday after completing work this spring semester. He was just one semester shy of graduating 13-years ago when he left the Wildcats for the NBA draft. Davidson made the Elite Eight while Curry was a player in 2008.

Suspects On Run After Lowell Bar Shooting
(Gaston County, NC) -- Police are looking for two suspects in a Gaston County bar shooting. One officer was injured while chasing several people after gunfire erupted at the ICONz Bar in Lowell early Sunday morning. The officer's injuries weren't life-threatening. One suspect was arrested, but two were able to escape. There's no word on any injuries from the shooting at the bar.
Union County Beach Opening Could Be Delayed
(Union County, NC) -- A labor shortage might have effects on a Union County water destination. There could be a delay in opening the beach at Cane Creek Park because there aren't enough lifeguards to cover shifts. The beach area usually opens around Memorial Day, so it will depend if anyone is hired before that time.
Charlotte Woman Raising Money For Cancer Society
(Charlotte, NC) -- A Charlotte woman wants to raise record funds for a national cancer association. NBC Charlotte says Jen Kipphut has been nominated Woman of the Year by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for helping raise 100-thousand-dollars for the non-profit. Her husband died of a rare type of lymphoma four-years ago. Kipphut now has the goal of raising nearly 892-thousand-dollars to set a national record.
First Charlotte Flag Football Champion Crowned
(Charlotte, NC) -- There's a high school flag football champion in Charlotte for the first time. The new league launched this year thanks to a partnership between CMS Athletics and the Carolina Panthers. Yesterday's championship game at Bank of America Stadium was won by the girls from Julius L. Chambers High School. Twenty teams were part of the league.
Central North Carolina Urged To Brace For Severe Weather This Afternoon
(Raleigh, NC) -- The National Weather Service has placed most of central North Carolina under a Level 2, Slight Risk of severe storms developing later this afternoon. The main threat from the storm system will be strong straight line wind gusts and large hail. Forecasters also warn of a slight possibility of tornadoes developing. The timing for the system to pass over the region is between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. Residents are advised to have an emergency safety plan in place.
In-Person Voting For North Carolina Primary Elections Will Be Held Tomorrow
(Raleigh, NC) -- Voters in precincts across North Carolina are expected to turn out in massive numbers tomorrow to cast ballots in-person for party primary elections. Voters in all 100-counties will decide on party nominations for the offices of U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, North Carolina General Assembly seats, NC Supreme Court and Court of Appeals, as well as numerous local offices. Any voters who requested and received absentee ballots must return them by 5 p.m. Tuesday, or have their ballots postmarked by May 17th.
Drive-By Shooters Hit Same House In Harnett County For Third Time This Year
(Harnett County, NC) -- Authorities in Harnett County are investigating a drive-by shooting at the same residence this year as gang related. The latest happened early Sunday morning at a home on Highway 27-near Cameron. Although there were no injuries, deputies say it was the same location that shots were fired into on January and on February 15th. In the first shooting a woman inside was wounded in the face. And during the second incident a teenager inside the alleged shooter's vehicle was killed. There have been no arrests in either of the shootings.
Fed Up Rocky Mount Residents Hold Protest March Against Gun Violence
(Rocky Mount, NC) -- Dozens of protesters took to the streets of Rocky Mount Sunday to march against a recent spike in violent crime in the city. The demonstration along East Highland Avenue came in response to more than a dozen shootings in the small town this year, including a nine-year old boy who was wounded while asleep in his bed just last week. The outbreak of gun violence has prompted the police department to establish a new Violent Crimes Task Force of which the FBI and Department of Homeland Security are now a part of.
Nash County Manufacturing Plant Totally Destroyed By Fire Over The Weekend
(Nash County, NC) -- Inspectors in Nash County say a massive fire at a manufacturing plant in Spring Hope totally destroyed the facility. The blaze, which broke out around 11:30 pm Saturday at JHRG Manufacturing on Pine Street, lasted several hours before firefighters were finally able to bring it under control Sunday morning. There were no injuries, but the plant, which produces body armor, ballistic vests and protective clothing was a complete loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Carolina Hurricanes Advance To Second Round Of Playoffs To Take On The Rangers
(Raleigh, NC) -- Next up for the Carolina Hurricanes will be the New York Rangers. This, after defeating the Boston Bruins 3-2 Saturday night at PNC Arena, in Game 7 to clinch the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoff series. The unlikely hero of Game 7 was Max Domi, who had two goals and one assist to help Carolina hang on for the victory. The first two of the seven game second round series against the Rangers will be played at home at PNC Arena.
