(Asheville, NC) -- Asheville police are looking for the suspect in a nightclub shooting. Officers say the victim was shot in the chest while standing on the steps outside the Grove House Entertainment Complex in downtown early Saturday morning. The person was listed in serious condition at the hospital.

Groups Allege Republicans Broke Rules While Drawing Maps

(Raleigh, NC) -- Challengers of North Carolina's newly-drawn legislative maps are accusing House Republicans of breaking the rules during redistricting. A court filing submitted by the state's Democratic Party and the group Common Cause claim the lawmakers used political data in drawing up the new lines, which was prohibited by the judges. The News and Observer is reporting Republicans countered that argument in a brief on Friday that said there was no evidence any data was used. A Democratic and Republican state representative both say their assistants downloaded a political breakdown of maps during the redistricting process, but they never opened the file.

Naked Man Accused Of Loitering On McDowell County Porches

(McDowell County, NC) -- Deputies are looking for a man accused of loitering while naked in McDowell County. WSPA-TV is reporting the man was caught on camera on porches on Burma Road West twice this month and once in April. Investigators say he attempted to break into one home. The sheriff's office is looking for the public's help in identifying the man, who reportedly has a large tattoo on his left shoulder.

New ER Opens At Mission Health

(Asheville, NC) -- A new emergency department is open at Mission Health in Asheville. The hospital moved into a location in the new North Tower on Sunday morning. Employees will help direct anyone to the new ER if you show up in the old one. The emergency room in the 12-story north tower is twice the size of the old location, with 94 beds.

City Councilman Fired From Job Over Drug Policy

(Asheville, NC) -- An Asheville city councilman is no longer employed with the local Habitat for Humanity due to a disagreement over the nonprofit's drug policy. Brian Haynes told the Citizen-Times he was fired in late September for his opposition to the policy and refusing to take a test. He says the presence of THC from marijuana doesn't mean someone is impaired because it can stay in someone's system for days. Habitat's executive director said he had to enforce the policies consistently.

North Carolina Firefighters Honored During Memorial Service

(Emmitsburg, MD) -- The names of five North Carolina firefighters are going on the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial. They were honored along with nearly 90 others nationwide at yesterday's national memorial service in Emmitsburg, Maryland. One of those firefighters is William Willis, who served in Asheville and died last year after a battle with kidney cancer.

Youth Pastor Arrested For Alleged Sex Crimes

(Gaston County, NC) -- A Gaston County youth pastor is in jail for alleged sex crimes with a teenager. Nicholas Martin, of North Belmont Church of God, was arrested Saturday for four counts of indecent liberties with a child, among other charges. Investigators say the crimes involved a 14-year-old girl, who Martin allegedly helped get drunk several times over the past year. Officers haven't said if the victim was a member of the church.

Doctor Dies Days After Uptown Shooting

(Charlotte, NC) -- A teenager is now facing murder charges for allegedly shooting an out-of-town doctor in uptown. Dr. John Holaday was heading to a business meeting a week ago when he was hit by a stray bullet. He died at Carolinas Medical Center on Saturday, which led to an upgraded murder charge against 16-year-old Raheem Shacklette. The shooting allegedly stemmed from an argument that broke out at the same time firefighters were battling a blaze at a restaurant just down the street.

Assistant Principal Accused Of Having Sex With Student

(Gaston County, NC) -- An assistant principal in Gaston County is accused of having sex with a student. Lisa Rothwell was arrested and placed under a one-million-dollar bond on Friday night. Investigators say she allegedly had inappropriate contact with the student multiple times in April and July. Rothwell has been suspended with pay from her position at Stuart Cramer High School.

Flight Passengers Exposed To Hepatitis A

(Charlotte, NC) -- Mecklenburg County health officials say some local residents were exposed to Hepatitis A on a recent flight. The exposure happened on September 21st on an American Airlines flight that traveled from San Francisco to Charlotte. All 18 people locally were given a vaccination after the flight.

Three Men Accused Of Using Fake Money At Wake Co. Sweepstakes Business

(Raleigh, NC) -- Three men are accused of trying to use fake 100-dollar bills at a sweepstakes business in Raleigh. Ira Davis, Jonathan Shiloh and Kenneth Goode Junior were arrested Saturday. Law enforcement officials say they tried to cash out the fake money for credit at the Grand Riviera sweepstakes parlor on Rock Quarry Road. All three men were arrested and are due in court today.

LA Couple Arrested In Wake Co. On Drug-Trafficking Charges

(Wake Co., NC) -- A Louisiana couple is under arrest in Wake County, accused of trafficking large amounts of heroin, methamphetamines and other drugs. Andrea Bonilla-Rodriguez and Erasmo Tabora-Garcia were charged Thursday with multiple felony counts of drug-trafficking, as well as misdemeanor child abuse. Deputies say they had over ten-thousand dollars in drugs on them. Both suspects are due in court this morning.

(Johnston Co., NC) -- A Johnston County teenager is accused of putting bleach in her boyfriend's Gatorade. Sheriff's deputies were called to the 17-year-old boy's home Thursday night after he started suffering severe stomach pain and vomiting. He was rushed to a hospital and is expected to recover. Deputies reportedly learned his girlfriend, 18-year-old Makayla Bridges, spiked his drink with bleach. She was arrested and booked into the Johnston County jail on a ten-thousand-dollar bond.

Man Accused Of Assaulting Burlington Officers

(Burlington, NC) -- A man suspected of assault is also accused of attacking his arresting officers. Police say Bobby Harvey was uncooperative Friday night when they responded to the scene on Dailey Street. The suspect and the officers were treated at Alamance Regional Medical Center and released. Harvey was charged with felony assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.

Eight Cases of Mumps Confirmed On HPU Campus

(Hight Point, NC) -- The Guilford County Health Department says eight people at High Point University have been diagnosed with mumps. The department and Novant Health confirmed the cases Saturday. The university hopes to help stop the spread of mumps by deep-cleaning, as well as informing the campus community about the symptoms and risks of the highly-contagious infection.
