Missing Toddler Found Alive In Craven Co. (Craven Co., NC)

The three-year-old boy who vanished from his grandmother's backyard in Craven County is alive and well.  Casey Lynn Hathaway had been missing in frigid temperatures for more than two days.  Officials say he was found in good health last night by search and rescue crews near the home where he disappeared from.  The child was taken to a local hospital to be evaluated. 

Gov. Cooper Visits Marion To Discuss Opioid Crisis (Marion, NC)

Governor Roy Cooper is gathering information from employees at the McLeod Addictive Disease Center in Marion to help fight the opioid crisis.  The governor hosted a roundtable yesterday so he could hear from the staff first-hand.  They talked about the opioid crisis and the benefits of expanding medicaid.  According to the Centers for Disease Control, North Carolina is second in the nation for the highest increase in opioid deaths

Woman Convicted Of Voluntary Manslaughter In Murder Trial (Buncombe Co., NC)

The Buncombe County woman accused of shooting and killing her boyfriend in 2015 is convicted of voluntary manslaughter.  Robin Richardson had been on trial for murder for about two weeks.  She was convicted yesterday afternoon with voluntary manslaughter after claiming self-defense.  Tim Fry was shot four times inside the couple's Arden home after a drunken fight. 

Buncombe Co. Sheriff's Officials Looking For Missing Girl (Buncombe Co., NC)

Buncombe County sheriff's officials are asking for the public's help to find a missing girl.  Woosun Choi is of Korean descent and has long, black hair and brown eyes.  She weighs about 190 pounds and is five-foot-two.  Sheriff's officials say she was last seen in a silver 2003 Ford Explorer with South Carolina plate number PAZ-940.  Anyone with information is urged to come forward.

Construction Underway On Downtown Asheville Softball Field (Asheville, NC)

Construction is underway on a softball field south of downtown Asheville.  Most of the 425-thousand-dollar project is covered by sales tax money, and the rest is being paid for by the city's Parks and Rec Department.  The field will be located at the front of Asheville Middle School and will be used for students and city leagues.  Individuals will also be able to rent the field.

Charlotte Gym Catches Fire, No One Hurt (Charlotte, NC)

No one is seriously hurt after a three-alarm fire at a gym in southeast Charlotte.  It broke out last night at the Trifecta Athletics Gym on Silabert Avenue.  A worker was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  Officials say the fire started in a warehouse at the gym.  It's not clear what caused it. 

Cam Newton Undergoes Shoulder Surgery (Charlotte, NC)

Cam Newton is recovering after shoulder surgery.  The Carolina Panthers quarterback underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder yesterday.  It was performed by the team's physician, Dr. Pat Connor, who said everything went well.  Newton will begin rehab right away. 

Mecklenburg Co. Homeowners Getting New Property Value Notices (Mecklenburg Co., NC)

Homeowners in Mecklenburg County are getting updated property value notices in the mail.  They started going out this week.  Homeowners in and around Charlotte are expected to see a huge climb in their assessments.  The county assessor's office says the total value of real estate increased 54 percent from 2011.  

Rush Bowls To Open In Charlotte (Charlotte, NC)

A health food chain is opening up a restaurant in Charlotte.  It's called Rush Bowls, and it features fruit, yogurt, granola and other healthy ingredients.  The restaurant is opening up on East 36th Street in NoDa.  The couple who's opening it says they plan on opening up two more in the area soon.

Man Arrested For Allegedly Shooting Someone While Impersonating An Apex Cop (Pitt Co., NC)

Pitt County deputies arrested a man they say dressed as an Apex police officer and shot a pawnshop owner in Greenville.  They arrested 22-year-old Raekwon Snipes yesterday for the robbery and shooting a day earlier at Jolly's Pawn Shop.  They say the owner was taken to the hospital and his condition isn't known.  Apex police say someone broke into an officer's personal car earlier this month and stole his police jacket and hat.  Snipes is charged with attempted first-degree murder and impersonating a law enforcement officer.  

Durham Police Investigate A Hotel Murder (Durham, NC)

Police in Durham are investigating a murder at an extended stay hotel.  They say yesterday morning they found a man shot to death in a room at the HomeTowne Studios.  The victim hasn't been identified yet.  Police ask anyone with information to call them.

School District Suspends A Bus Driver After A Bus Fight Video Goes Viral (Durham, NC)

A Durham school bus driver is suspended after a girl was beaten on the bus.  The victim was apparently beaten by a Glenn Elementary classmate on the bus last week.  The beating was recorded and shared on Instagram.  Parents are upset and asking why the driver didn't step in.  The Durham County Sheriff's Department is investigating and the driver is suspended without pay.

Missing Johnston County Woman (Wilson's Mills, NC)

Police are asking for help finding a missing Johnston County mother.  Wilson's Mills police say 29-year-old Megan Fuller was last seen three weeks ago.  There's no evidence of foul play, but police say her family's concerned about how long she's been away from her seven-year-old son.  Fuller is described as a five-foot-seven-inch tall 180-pound woman with black hair and brown eyes.  Anyone with information is asked to call police.

Raleigh Uber Driver Is Arrested For A Shooting (Raleigh, NC)

An Uber driver in Raleigh is accused of shooting two people in Smithfield.  Last month, a Raleigh woman was in an Uber when her driver Devin Stenulis was arrested.  Police swarmed the car and found not only a terrified woman, but a gun inside the vehicle.  ABC-eleven reports that Uber told them they've cut ties with Stenulis and are investing in technology that will alert them if a driver is arrested.

Homicide Investigation Underway After Two Bodies Found In Apartment (Greensboro, NC)

A homicide investigation is underway after two bodies were found inside a Greensboro apartment.  Firefighters responded to the apartment on Summit Avenue, between Yanceyville and Dewey streets, Wednesday night.  Two men were found dead inside the home after the fire was extinguished.  The cause is believed to be arson.  

Bennett College Receives Two Huge Donations (Greensboro, NC)

Bennett College in Greensboro is more than half-way to its fundraising goal.  The struggling women's college is trying to raise five-million dollars to protect its accreditation.  It reached a milestone yesterday when two foundations came forward with 500-thousand dollars each, The Papa John's Foundation and the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation.  That puts the college's total so far at two-point-seven-million dollars.  It has until February 1st to raise the rest of the money.

Davidson Co. Officials Looking For Thief Who Posted On Social Media (Davidson Co., NC)

Davidson County sheriff's officials are looking for a thief who posted about the crime on social media.  Deputies say a man posted a picture on Snapchat of him wearing a stolen necklace with the caption, "We wear the chains we snatch."  He and another man are accused of breaking into a home in Lexington last Saturday.  The second suspect, 18-year-old Qwaizoun Sampson, is already in custody.   Deputies have not released the name of the guy in the now-viral photo.  Anyone with information is urged to come froward.   

Person Killed In House Fire In Wentworth (Wentworth, NC)

A person is dead after a house fire in Wentworth.  It broke out Thursday morning near Highway 87 and Raven Road.  Multiple departments responded.  The cause is under investigation.  The name of the victim is being withheld until his family is notified.
