Trump Responds To Moore's Request (Raleigh, NC)

North Carolina's House Speaker says President Trump responded to his invitation to give the State of the Union address at the state's General Assembly.  Tim Moore invited Trump last week after U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi asked him to hold off on the speech.  Trump reportedly told Moore that he was appreciative of the invitation, but didn't technically accept or decline.  North Carolina's Democratic Party calls the whole thing a stunt.  

Stroupe Murder Trial Delayed Again (Henderson County, NC)

The Henderson County murder trial of Phillip Stroupe the second is being delayed again.  A judge accepted a request to push this month's date back to May due to new evidence.  The trial was originally supposed to begin last summer.  Stroupe is accused of shooting Tommy Bryson to death near Mills River in July 2017.  

Missing Hendersonville Man Found Dead (Hendersonville, NC)

The search for a missing Hendersonville man is over.  The Henderson County Sheriff's Office says James Crouse was found dead Tuesday morning.  He had been missing for two days.  Crouse reportedly suffered from dementia.

Woman Claims Self-Defense In Murder Trial (Buncombe County, NC)

A woman on trial for murder in Buncombe County is claiming self-defense.  Robin Richardson took the stand yesterday to face accusations that she killed a former WLOS-TV employee more than three years ago.  Tim Fry was reportedly shot four times inside their Arden home.  Richardson said she thought Fry had a gun when she opened fire against him.

Suspect Remains In Jail After Sexual Assault Arrest (Buncombe County, NC)

A Buncombe County man is being accused of sexual assault and strangulation.  Jerome McFadden was arrested on Sunday.  He remains at the Buncombe County Detention Center on a quarter-million-dollar bond.  

Winter Weather Advisory Until Noon (Asheville, NC)

Several counties in Western North Carolina are under a winter weather advisory until noon today.  A light glaze of ice from freezing rain is possible throughout the morning.  The National Weather Service is expecting rain to turn heavy later on today through the evening.  Some areas may receive up to three inches of rain with isolated flooding possible.

Judge Refuses To Certify North Carolina Election Result (Raleigh, NC)

A North Carolina judge is refusing to certify the result of the ninth district congressional election. Republican Mark Harris had asked the court to certify his victory so that he can take the seat in Congress. The state elections board has twice refused to certify Harris as the winner because of suspected ballot fraud.  Superior Court Judge Paul Ridgeway said yesterday the state's election board should conclude its investigation of the race.

Suspect On Run After Triple Shooting (Charlotte, NC)

The CMPD is looking for a suspect involved in a triple shooting in east Charlotte.  Three people were injured outside the Family Dollar on Milton Road near E.W.T Harris Boulevard yesterday afternoon.  Investigators said some of the victims had guns in their possession.  All three were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.  

Chance Of Slick Roads This Morning Before Heavy Rain (Charlotte, NC)

There may be some dangerous conditions on Charlotte's roads this morning.  Forecasters are calling for a light freezing drizzle until nine or so.  Things will change over to all rain later, with heavy rainfall possible overnight.  The National Weather Service says some areas could experience flooding.  

Man Dies After Shooting In Gastonia (Gastonia, NC)

Gastonia Police are investigating a deadly shooting.  It happened Monday night at a home on West McFarland Street.  The victim died at the hospital.  Investigators said all the parties involved were identified, but it is unclear if any charges will be filed.

Women's March Coming Up Saturday In Charlotte (Charlotte, NC)

Charlotte's Women United March is this Saturday in uptown.  The event was moved a week after other marches countrywide because of various events last weekend honoring Martin Luther King, Junior.  North Carolina Supreme Court Associate Justice Anita Earls and other speakers will take the stage at 11 a.m. with the march planned for 12:30 p.m.  Organizers have requested no political rhetoric.  

Pilots Serve Lunch To Air Traffic Control Employees (Charlotte, NC)

Federal workers are being helped in different ways across the country during the government shutdown.  A man who runs a Chick-fil-A in Fort Mill told NBC Charlotte that the restaurant helped out a group of pilots yesterday who wanted to make a difference at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.  Michael Crosby and the pilots served lunch to employees in the air traffic control tower who are on the job with no pay.  Charlotte's Second Harvest Food Bank is preparing food packages this weekend and through the end of the shutdown.

A Missing Toddler Search Continues (Craven Co., NC)

More than 100 volunteers in Craven County are desperately searching for a missing toddler.  Deputies say yesterday afternoon, three-year-old Casey Hathaway went missing in Ernul.  His grandmother was watching three kids, two of them came inside, leaving young Casey to play by himself outside.  An Amber Alert has been issued.  Casey is described as a 25-pound blonde haired, brown eyed white boy that stands 28-inches tall.  Multiple law enforcement agencies are trying to find him.  He was last seen wearing a blue coat and dark pants.

Deadly Construction Project In Raleigh (Raleigh, NC)

One person is dead after a construction accident in Raleigh.  Authorities say yesterday morning, three workers were trapped when a retaining wall collapsed at a work site at Old Wake Forest Road and Triangle Town Boulevard.  Other workers were able to free two of them, but they couldn't save the third.  The surviving workers were taken to the hospital and are expected to survive.

Trump's State Of The Union Speech In Raleigh Remains Possible (Raleigh, NC)

President Donald Trump might give The State of the Union address in Raleigh.  ABC News reports that Trump is planning two State of the Union speeches, one for Capitol Hill and another if he speaks elsewhere.  North Carolina House Speaker Tim Moore invited Trump to speak at the General Assembly.  Yesterday, Moore tweeted to thank Trump for responding to his invitation.  Nothing is set in stone, but a presidential motorcade in Raleigh is not out of the question.

Durham Police Try To ID A Pair They Think Could Be Linked To A School Bus Shooting (Durham, NC)

Police in Durham are trying to identify two people they think could have information on a school bus shooting.  Last week, someone shot a school bus with 19 students on board.  None of the students were hurt, but the driver was injured by glass from a shattered window.  Durham police released surveillance images of two people who might have been involved in the shooting.  The images are available online and anyone who recognizes either person is asked to call police.

A Man Who Shot And Killed A Toddler Heads To Prison (Chapel-Hill, NC)

A man is going to prison for a shooting that killed a toddler in Chapel Hill.  Yesterday, Pierre Moore pleaded guilty to murder for the 2015 shooting that killed one-year-old Maleah Williams who was playing outside on Christmas Day.  Police say she was an innocent bystander and the shots came from a car leaving her apartment complex.  Moore will spend at least 28-years in prison.

UNC System's Interim President Is Set To Pick Chancellor Folt's Replacement (Chapel-Hill, NC)

UNC System Interim President Bill Roper is going to pick Chancellor Carol Folt's successor.  Folt is going to be stepping down as Chancellor of UNC Chapel-Hill at the end of the month.  Yesterday it was announced that Roper will pick the next leader of UNC Chapel-Hill.  It still isn't known who that might be, but a board of governor's meeting is scheduled for Friday.

Triad Under Winter Weather Advisory (Greensboro, NC)

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for most of the Piedmont Triad this morning.  The National Weather Service says freezing rain could ice bridges, overpasses and sidewalks.  It could also affect travel and prompt school delays.  Drivers are urged to be extra careful.  The advisory expires at 10 a.m. 

Animal Owners Warned About Tethering Laws (Greensboro, NC)

Animal control officers are warning pet owners about tethering laws and the threat of cold weather.  Officers in Greensboro spent the day yesterday checking on animals and making sure they weren't tied up and left alone outside.  One dog owner was fined 500 dollars.  Officers say it's okay to keep your pet outside as long as there is shelter and proper insulation.  Pets, however, should not be left outside in freezing temperatures.

Judge Refuses To Certify North Carolina Election Result (Raleigh, NC)

A North Carolina judge is refusing to certify the result of a controversial Congressional election.  Superior Court Judge Paul Ridgeway said yesterday the state's election board should conclude its investigation of the Ninth Congressional District race.  Republican Mark Harris had asked the court to certify his victory so that he can take the seat in Congress.  The state elections board twice refused to certify Harris as the winner because of suspected election fraud.  Harris leads Democrat Dan McCready by 905 votes.  

Man In U-Haul Accused Of Stealing Gas, Leading Deputies On Chase (Randolph Co., NC)

A man driving a U-Haul is accused of stealing gas and leading Randolph County deputies on a chase. The scene unfolded yesterday at the Midway Mart in Sophia.  Deputies tried to stop the U-Haul, but it sped off onto Interstate-85.  The driver, identified as Bobby Jones, was eventually stopped by police in Thomasville and arrested.  He's facing several charges, including fleeing to elude arrest and larceny of motor fuel. 

Truck Driver Charged After Crash With Train (Pleasant Garden, NC)

A truck driver is charged after getting into a wreck with a train in Pleasant Garden.  The accident happened yesterday morning near Hunt and Walter Wright roads.  Police say David Morgan failed to yield the right-of-way to the train, and it slammed into the back of his big-rig.  He was charged with making an unsafe movement.  No one was hurt.
