Slain NC Trooper Identified, Suspect In Custody

A State Trooper killed during a traffic stop in rural Columbus County has been identified. The Highway Patrol says Trooper Kevin K. Conner was an 11 year veteran of the force. He was shot just after midnight (Wed) while pulling over a suspected speeder in a white pickup truck. After shooting the trooper, the driver fled. Authorities caught up to him after the truck became disabled on some railroad tracks in Fair Bluff. The driver fled on foot, but was arrested after a brief manhunt. The suspect's identity has not been released. Highway Patrol Colonel Glenn McNeill issued a statement calling Conner a hero and asking for prayers for the Trooper's family.
